Using a Form N-565 to Replace a Certificate of Naturalization
When one is not an original citizen of a country, it is extremely important that all material is kept safe and in good condition. Seeing as most countries deem it illegal for one to reside without permission, not having one’s documents can lead to some serious issues. In America, there are two ways that one could become a member of the nation; through a Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship. Both have different requirements but both grant citizenship and the most rights of a natural born American (A naturalized citizen is not Eligible to become president). Keeping track of documents that legalizes an individual as a citizen is very important, especially for those that were naturalized. So in the event that a Certificate of Naturalization becomes lost, badly damaged, or the individual has a name change it needs to be replaced as fast as possible.
In order to replace a Certificate of Naturalization, the form N-565 would have to be filled out and filed at a local United States Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS) office. The form N-565 can also be filed online, even in other countries as well. Be aware that the actual approved document would have to be picked up in America at a USCIS office. Before going to file for a form N-565, there are a few things that need to be taken care of.
When going to apply for the form N-565 one needs to have their alien registration/social security number ready. Also an up to date photograph (to the USCIS standard) with current location also need to be added to the form as well. Without these items, the form N-565 will be automatically rejected. So to avoid any problems while filing, make sure all of this information is on hand before even starting the application; especially if the individual filing wants to mail in the form. There is an application fee of $380.
When applying for any official document it is very important that they are filled out correctly. If they are not, not only will they be unapproved, but the filing fee will not be reimbursed either; if there is a misunderstanding or any questions, ask them before filing to avoid such situations. All questions can be directed to a local branch of the United States Citizens and Immigrations Services (USCIS) office. The USCIS can also be contacted online or by phone for support as well. They would be happy to answer or assist with any and all applications.
